The Palo Alto Student Climate Coalition (PASCC) has opposed any airport renovations that would result in an increased environmental and/or climate impact, or a socially unjust result in this petition. After a substantial win on September 16th, 2024, where the City Council effectively halted any airport expansion into the baylands preserve, PASCC did not declare victory on this issue but rather waited for City staff to release a final alternative of expansion/renovation to confirm that the Council's instruction was followed through with. In light of how that has been left off the table, it is within PASCC's informed understanding that within the foreseeable future, the baylands are no longer under threat of development, and communities will not be faced with increased harm. That is given that the City does not reverse its standpoint in 2026 and present a harmful plan. PASCC is confident that this will not occur, but in the case that it does, we are prepared to speak up and fight back, especially against the special interests pushing for these disastrous changes.
