Please remember to attend the meetings on Thursday, July 11th concerning the development of the Old Mill property.  Come ready to make Public Comments!  Let your voice be heard!

Public Comments begin at the 6 pm Business Meeting.  (Or watch online - The Planning Commission will see how many are viewing!  Or next time, contact the Planning Council the before the meeting, and watch virtually, and they will see & hear your comments!  www.ch.uta.gov/planningcommission

This is a critical time to step up and voice your concerns about adding over 300 housing units in our backyards as well as tearing down the iconic Old Mill which is listed on the National Historic Register.

Meeting Schedule:
5:00 pm - Planning Commission Work Session - Commission Work Room (No comments but it’s great to show a strong presence)
6:00 pm - Business & General Public Comments Meeting - City Council Chambers (Make Comments)
6:30 - 8:30 pm  - Paper Mill Village Project Meeting - City Hall Community Room - Hosted by Walker Family Trust and Think Architecture.

Here are some talking points we should emphasize to our City leaders:
a) Condos (35 units/acre) and Townhomes (10 units/acre) do not mesh well with the existing 148 single family homes (4-5 units/acre) along Big Cottonwood Canyon Creek.
b) Rural feel of our area will be greatly impacted.
c) The Old Mill gives an Historic feel to the entire area including Big Cottonwood Canyon Rd.
d) There are no amenities to support 300+ additional homes including: transportation, retail, gas stations, libraries or restaurants.
e) The additional 2,100 to 2,700 trips per day (based on traffic studies showing 7 - 9 trips per home per day) will cause huge safety issues to our residents.
f) The traffic with the accompanying particulates will trap hazardous pollution in our air in the winter months.
g) The Walker Family could create a positive legacy for their family by developing this property with similar size lots and homes.
h) There are other areas of our city which could support more units.
i) We have spent the last two years getting the Riparian and SLEDS Ordinances passed and the Paper Mill Village disregards those statutes.
j) We do not want a Sugarhouse style feel or development in our backyard.
k) Experts from Preservation Utah have commented at previous meetings that the Old Mill can be preserved as an historic building.
