Save the O2 Centre on Finchley Road

Save the O2 Centre on Finchley Road
The Issue
The O2 Centre is a community hub, leisure, restaurant and supermarket centre on Finchley Road.
It had been one of Hampstead’s top spots before lockdown, and has been rebuilding its crowd since lockdown ended.
In recent years, it was announced that the entire venue would be knocked down save a large supermarket, and replaced with 1000 apartments.
Not only this- but it was announced that the most liked components of the venue, including the gym and cinema, are going to be rebuilt on the site once they have been knocked over. In the middle of a climate crisis, the last thing we need is to be knocking places down just to rebuild them.
The company ‘Landsec’ advertises that green spaces in the site will contribute to the environment. It is not worth counting the decades these ‘green spaces’ would need to make up for the building works themselves.
More recently, it was discovered that Landsec would have reduced building restrictions (especially in terms of the green spaces), should they pay the council a 7-figure sum.
The O2 is a key meeting place for many, and the go-to cinema, fitness centre, bookshop, or restaurant venue for so many others. There are numerous people who would lose out should this special venue be destroyed.
Please help us save the O2 centre, all help is greatly appreciated.
