UN Watchdog CERD recommends India suspends Great Nicobar Project

The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) has released its highly anticipated Concluding Observations regarding India's periodic human rights updates.

Crucially, the Committee highlighted development pipelines on the Great Nicobar and Andaman Islands. It recommended a formal suspension of these infrastructure initiatives until comprehensive, independent environmental and cultural impact studies are finished to protect the delicate survival of isolated Indigenous tribes.
