Thank you once again for signing the petition against the Swadlincote/National Forest Incinerator.
The crucial Derbyshire County Council Planning Committee Meeting for the Swadlincote Incinerator is TOMORROW:
Date: Monday 2nd September 2024
Time: 14:30
Location: County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG
With hours to go, here's how you can help:
- Attend the Planning meeting if you are able to.
- More Signatures Needed: Remember, more than one person in a household can sign the petition - they just need to use their email address. The email for you to verify your signature also needs to be clicked on for it to count.
- Spread the Word: Share our campaign with friends, family, and neighbours. Please ensure everyone who opposes the incinerator adds their name. We are also aware that those without social media access are largely unaware of this application - help share news with them too.
Can't Attend? If you haven't submitted a formal objection to Derbyshire County Council then send a brief statement to planningrepresentations@derbyshire.gov.uk as soon as possible.
Remember the key issues with this application:
- Irreparable damage to South Derbyshire's character and National Forest status. Which South Derbyshire District Council say would be 'alien' to the character of the landscape and townscape.
- It would represent significant industrialisation of the area - of which the West of the A444 (the side that the incinerator is planned) is estate farmlands and greenfields.
- Harmful impacts on local amenity, including noise and emissions
- Negative effects on established woodland and local wildlife sites
- Concerns about increased heavy vehicle traffic and road safety particularly for the A444.
- Failure to acknowledge another incinerator 3km away and to consider the cumulative effects.
South Derbyshire District Counci's objections were pretty damning and can be found on our earlier update (https://www.change.org/p/save-the-national-forest-landscape-from-a-60metre-incinerator/u/32858639).
South Derbyshire District Council strongly objects to this proposal, but the final decision rests with Derbyshire County Council.
Our petition has really gathered pace today and we have hit 3000 signatories. Your engagement today could make a difference.
Thank you for your support.

P.S If a contact says they didn't receive the 'confirm your signature email' then have them search emails for 'confirm your email or your signature will be removed shortly' in their email (subject line search). We are sad to hear that many aren't getting this confirmation email.
