The Monkey House is under threat AGAIN It's time to actively support Molly & Kaspur as they are hauled before the liquor licensing commission due to complaints from a newly opened air b&b business that has formed in the industrial zoned street.

The Monkey House has been an entertainment venue on Coghill Street for over 30 years and has hosted Music, Theatre, art events, community meetings and private parties throughout its history. As mentioned, the commercial block where it is located is appropriate for such use as its surrounding neighbours consist of several auto and boat mechanics, marine upholsterer, auto parts store, therapist & physio offices, and the like.

This is a fundamentally unfair situation and has had a damaging effect on hospitality businesses in this town for years. The Monkey House is a beloved venue for a wide cross-section and all ages of the Whitianga community. Molly and Kaspur work tirelessly booking world class acts, supporting local up & coming musicians, youth and all the diversity of our town.

They run a tight ship professionally to comply with council regulations and police to create a safe space for their patrons. We cannot afford to lose this amazing venue!
