HAPPY EARTH DAY!
Thank you again for your support in the efforts to preserve the Modoc Preserve and it's tree habitat/canopy. The battle is definitely not over...but, in the last 9 months we have made significant progress in saving the Modoc Road trees.
Details can be found in the Modoc Preserve blog.
All of the trees that were targeted for destruction in the Western half of the Modoc Preserve have been saved. We have forced the proposed 14' wide asphalt bike road out of the fragile protected wetlands and up onto Modoc Road's existing asphalt infrastructure.
We have supported the Santa Barbara Land Trust in their efforts to enforce the provisions of the Conservation Easement Agreement signed in 1999.
Any proposed bike path project MUST comply with the guidelines that Santa Barbara Land Trust has issued which excludes toxic road building materials and any design that looks like a road.
CAMP continues to maintain that the best way to solve this issue is to finish the project on Modoc Road out of the tree line.
CAMP's lawsuit against Santa Barbara County Public Works and the Board of Supervisors for alleged violations of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is very much still active with a trial date in front of Judge Thomas Anderle on December, 13, 2023.
Please continue to spread the word...we have nearly 6000 petition supporters...only 90 more to go!
Our goal is to keep this ecologically valuable open space from encroaching urban development. Please contribute to our legal fund to help save these 100+ year old iconic, and historic, heritage trees before it's too late. Everything helps!
*PLEASE NOTE FUNDS DONATED TO THE LINK ABOVE GO DIRECTLY INTO THE LEGAL DEFENSE FUND TO HELP PROTECT THE MODOC TREES AND THE PRESERVE LAND.
CONTRIBUTIONS THRU THIS PETITION WHEN YOU SIGN UP, ARE ONLY USED TO INCREASE PETITION SIGNATURES. WE DON'T CONTROL THOSE CONTRIBUTIONS.*
