Imagine the loss to the tree belt view corridor along Modoc Road, if the iconic trees on the left side of the picture above, survivors of the Painted Cave Fire, were to be destroyed.

Obviously, it would be devastating to the semi-rural aesthetic of our community and the Modoc Preserve.

Trees are not only beautiful to L@@K at...in addition to providing important habitat and shade canopy to a diverse population of numerous species of birds, mammals, and other organisms...they also play an integral role in the fight against climate change and air pollution.

Here are 10 reasons to love trees:

  1. Trees produce oxygen. Enough to sustain up to 10 humans per year.
  2. Trees are carbon sinks. Absorbing CO2. Reducing greenhouse gas.
  3. Trees provide shade and cooling. Significantly reducing temps.
  4. Trees are wind breaks. Reducing drying effect on vegetation.
  5. Trees reduce noise pollution. Muffles highway, plane, & train sound.
  6. Trees clean the soil. Filtering roadside and urban chemicals.
  7. Trees slow down storm runoff. Help fight soil erosion.
  8. Trees are beautiful to L@@K at. Aesthetically pleasing landscape.
  9. Trees provide important habitat to a diverse range of animals.
  10. Trees provide passive calming effect  to reduce driver anxiety. Improves behaviors.

These trees have been a fabric of our community for as long as anyone alive can remember. It would be a travesty and environmental disaster for them to be chopped down. It is not fiscally responsible to spend $5.35MM constructing a new Class I bike path in addition to the Class II bike lanes there already.

We recommend a NO BUILD ALTERNATIVE.

Keep this valuable natural open space undeveloped.

TREES MATTER!!!
