I’m pleased to confirm a temporary Post Office branch will open on 16th July, located at Milton Keynes City Council’s Civic Offices (1 Saxon Gate East, MK9 3EJ) - in the space formerly occupied by NatWest, while the Central Milton Keynes Post Office undergoes recovery following its closure in June.

This arrangement was made possible thanks to close collaboration between Milton Keynes City Council and the Post Office, restoring vital city-centre services during recovery efforts after the June closure.

I’d like to extend my gratitude to the Labour-led City Council for stepping in so swiftly - while this temporary branch is vital, I remain committed to pressing for a permanent, long-term solution to secure reliable postal services in Central Milton Keynes.

On the national stage, Gareth Thomas MP, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Services, Small Business and Exports, has called for “a fresh vision” for the Post Office and explicitly confirmed the government does not plan to reduce branch numbers. A 12-week consultation has now launched to explore new ownership and governance models, such as mutual or charter-style structures, as part of the wider effort to rebuild trust following the Horizon scandal.
