Save the Mandarin Program at District 67!

Save the Mandarin Program at District 67!
The Issue
The Mandarin Program at Cherokee Elementary and Deerpath Middle School in District 67 is at risk of being discontinued starting the 2023/2024 school year!
Urgency is needed, sign this petition today!
The Mandarin program is not just a language program at a school.
- It is unique in that is 1 out of less than a handful of public programs in Illinois and Midwest.
- It is special because it starts as early as Kindergarten and is an opportunity for children to learn the most widely spoken native language in the world.
- It is amazing because the curriculum includes learning and embracing diverse non-westernized cultures.
- Our teachers are caring, dedicated and make learning a difficult language fun and exciting.
- It brings diversity to our community and is a one of the main reasons many families move to Lake forest.
Through no prior communication or consultation from our community, District 67 Deputy Superintendent Jeff McHugh announced through email that the Mandarin Program is ending, but we may still be able to save it if we act now! The School Board will be voting on March 14th. Help save this important program at our schools!
