By signing our petition to support the Maine Lobster Fishery, you are demonstrating that you know this issue isn’t about Maine Lobster versus right whales.
Instead, our cause is to protect the livelihoods of lobstermen and small business owners throughout Maine who have worked hard to build a sustainable fishery that has been the backbone of our state’s economy for generations, and which can continue to provide a stable, secure, and honest living for generations to come.
The ability for Maine’s lobster fishery and right whales to survive isn’t mutually exclusive, and Maine’s lobstermen are deeply committed to finding solutions that allow both to thrive.
Broad stroke designations like the one from Monterey Bay Aquarium do little to protect North Atlantic right whales but have a very real and immediate impact on the families that comprise, and rely upon, the Maine Lobster industry.
Whether you live in Maine and are connected to the fishery, or simply believe, as we do, that enjoying Maine Lobster and protecting right whales aren’t at odds with one another, share your thoughts and help us raise the volume on our message to Monterey Bay Aquarium to reconsider their designation given the impact this will have on Maine families.
Record a short video and submit it here.
We will continue to do all we can to protect right whales while preserving an industry that sustains Maine communities and is engrained in our heritage. Our ability to pass this way of life onto our children depends upon it.
Thanks again for your support.
