Well, hallelujah! After two years of advocacy and over 5000 supporters later, Sutter has finally committed to reopening the Mickelson therapy pool. Last week, they formally announced the pool will reopen in early summer 2024. This represents a dramatically shortened timeline from the three years Sutter initially projected. A year is still a long time to wait, but we’ll take the win!
Although we are delighted that the pool will be reopening, we have concerns regarding Sutter’s intended uses for the facility. We hope that it will be made available for “open access” self-directed therapy for all community members in addition to physician-prescribed physical therapy. Sutter has not shared its plans regarding anticipated usage models, so we will be sure to keep a close eye on this.
