South Africa: New trial dates have now been set for Dawie Groenewald and Joseph “Big Joe” Nyalunga - both appeared in court earlier this month.
After 14 years since their arrest, Limpopo game farmer Dawie Groenewald and his co-accused will again appear in the Limpopo High Court on February 9, 2026 to stand trial on more than 1600 charges involving racketeering, money laundering, the illegal hunting of rhino and dealing in rhino horn.
Former police officer Joseph “Big Joe” Nyalunga and his co-accused are facing more than 40 charges related to rhino poaching and racketeering dating back to 2016. They appeared in court this month and are expected back in court on 17 January 2025. Big Joe has been arrested so many times we’ve lost count. This includes murder, kidnapping, and most recently R13000 in tax evasion where he paid R1000 in bail.
If this makes you sad and angry, if anyone out there wants the court circus to end, then please keep sharing and asking people to sign on to change.org/rhino-laws - be part of the change to bring rule of law to South Africa’s rhino crisis.
Exciting update to be sent out on Friday! Lets keep the momentum going...
