The Issue

We, the undersigned, respectfully petition for the return of the Kreischer Mansion to its rightful role as the home of our beloved haunted house. For years, this historic and iconic location has been the heart of a tradition that brings families, friends, and neighbors together in celebration, laughter, and a little bit of frightful fun. The mansion, with its rich history and eerie charm, provides the perfect setting—one that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else. It’s not just about spooky decorations and jump scares; it’s about the memories made, the traditions kept alive, and the joy shared across generations. A local says "I remember my first time visiting the haunted house at Kreischer Mansion when I was 23 years old. I was terrified—but in the best way. My dad was with me the whole way through while my older brother jumped out from a dark corner wearing a ghoul mask. It became a yearly ritual for our family, and now, I take my own kids there. The look on their faces as they walk up the creaky front steps is the same mix of excitement and awe I had. This isn’t just an attraction—it’s part of who we are." The Kreischer Mansion, built in the 1880s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of Staten Island’s most significant architectural landmarks. Over the past 6 years, the haunted house event has drawn in thousands of visitors annually—more than 5,000 people in the last Halloween season alone. Local vendors, food trucks, and nearby small businesses benefit from the foot traffic during the event, with some reporting up to a 30% increase in sales during the haunted house’s operating weeks. Beyond the economic boost, it’s become a cornerstone of our community calendar, something both residents and tourists look forward to each year. Losing this venue would mean more than relocating a seasonal event. It would mean stripping away a piece of our shared story, our history, and our connection to this treasured space. We’ve poured our hearts into creating something meaningful here, something that honors the mansion’s past while giving it a vibrant, living role in our present. The Kreischer Mansion deserves to continue being a place of wonder, of tradition, and of community. We urge you to support our effort to bring it back home.
