Save the Kansan: Stop the Student Senate Funding Cuts!

---

The University of Kansas Student Senate is proposing an 80% cut to the funding of the University Daily Kansan for the 2025-26 academic year. This drastic reduction—from $3.64 per student to just $0.75—threatens the very existence of our campus’s only daily student news organization, which serves not only KU students but also the entire Lawrence community.

In 2024, the delegated student fee was raised to $3.64 to pay the Kansan staffers, ensuring quality journalism and continued coverage of issues that matter to students, faculty, and alumni. Now, the Student Senate seeks to slash that funding by roughly 80%, effectively silencing student media and diminishing our collective voice.

We cannot let this happen. We must come together as students, faculty, and alumni to protect the Kansan—an essential part of our university’s tradition of free speech, independent reporting, and community engagement.

Sign this petition today and let your voice be heard. Stand up for the Kansan. Stand up for student media.
