HALPS has begun it's Phase I!
Atlantic Testing brought three barges and truck-mounted drilling equipment to the DEC Boat Launch in Hudson. These components were assembled into a drilling platform, which was then transported to the Lighthouse. The platform was anchored to the river bottom using 'spuds,' log poles driven into the river mud.
At locations specified by our engineers, Proper and O'Leary, holes were drilled below the riverbed using hollow pipes, reaching depths of up to 80 feet! These holes collected samples of the under-river bottom material for subsequent analysis. The results of this analysis will determine the final design, materials to be used, and construction procedures for installing the seawall containment around the Lighthouse.
Please continue to support the Lighthouse by signing the petition and also donating to it's 150th celebration this year. Funds will will go to 45 School tours in 3 school districts, HS students' Art and Poetry Exhibit, Food for volunteers and community activities and services. The children are the lightkeepers of our future! Thank you!
