We are almost up to 200! Please consider reaching out to a few more people tonight or tomorrow!
The school board meeting last night went well! Many people showed up -- a few of them with pink shirts or red socks! A lot of parents spoke up about the staff and budget cuts. The most comments seemed to be about the Dual Language Program. (Though, our petition and our community are asking to slow ALL faculty and staff cuts.)
Media attention:
A few Riverhead parents made the newspapers and News12. Congrats to Sanna for being quoted in Newsday online! Our local region cares about this issue.
Strategy for Riverhead School District voters:
The following strategy is not set in stone, but a few of us brainstormed this idea, and are considering: Maybe those of us who want to demand that the Dual Language Program be reinstated in all four elementary schools can suggest the following group strategy?: Vote "Yes" on the budget -- to support the schools and keep funds in place -- but, in the school board candidate election that same day, write in: "Dual Language Program". (It is just a thought. Please contact us with your strategy to make the district hear us. Really hear us. Not just say they hear us and then keep on cutting staff and programs.)
How to stay in the loop and/or volunteer for the cause:
We will keep our group up to date on more official strategies here. Also, considering some planning and decision-making sessions with supporters like you. Will share public meetings here as best as we are able. Another way to stay in the loop for now is to contact Sanna from Phillips Ave or Kimberly Wilder.
Other ways to keep up-to-date: Share your opinions and organize your fellow parents at the PTO meetings. Attend the next school board meeting about the budget on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. And/or check in at https://riverheadrasi.wordpress.com/
