Dear Mayor Johnson,
You based your election campaign on wanting to create a government based on collaboration.  You also said that you want to be the most progressive mayor in the history of Chicago.

Chicago ACC has unnecessarily killed thousands of homeless adoptable dogs and cats since January of 2023 and kept the animals in unsanitary conditions.  They are underperforming and saying that they are forced to kill for space.  This is untrue. They are choosing to kill innocent lives because they have not tried to save them.  

We are asking you to fire Sue Cappello, Acting Executive Director, for her negligence and not being present at the facility while earning a salary of over $150 thousand dollars a year.  She has left the daily operations of the facility in the hands of the shelter Manager, Arthur Hamilton and the Animal Placement Coordinador, Athanasia Proutsos, who are making the decisions to kill adoptable animals.  They are not qualified to do their jobs and in the case of Ms. Proutsos, she is not doing the job that she was hired to do.

We are requesting that you do a national search for a compassionate Director who cares about the animals and who will embrace the No Kill Equation initiated by Nathan Winograd.  This Director would hire a staff and behaviorist trainer who also believe in the No Kill Equation, the most progressive, humane and successful program in the country.

Large organizations like Best Friends promote killing and leaving stray animals roam the streets.  Only the No Kill Equation involves the community in a welcoming way, creates revenue from the shelter itself and saves 98% to 99% of lives. 

Chicago could be a leader for the country in Animal Welfare and the pride of the community if these requests were honored.
