On September 6, 2023, it was announced that the City Center 15 Showcase Cinema De Lux would close the following month. This most likely was caused by the pandemic changing moviegoing habits by releasing major motion pictures to streaming and people getting acclimated to it. But I still love going to the movie theater, especially when said movie theater is so conveniently in my neighborhood! The next time I go see a movie, I don't want to schlep all the way to Yonkers or Port Chester or Pleasantville and back! I really don't want this theater to close. I was quiet when they knocked down the Elmsford and Hawthorne locations, but this hits way too close to home for me! Sure, the movie theater wasn't exactly perfect. There was at least one theater where the speaker the dialogue came out of was too low, but as far as I know they fixed that. I know that this petition will hardly do anything to save it, but it is way better than just sitting around and doing nothing about it. Even if this petition doesn't convince the theater to stay open, at the very least, I would love this to convince them to not replace it with another retail store or apartments that no one can afford. I would love for another theater chain to take over the space.
