Dear friends of Blakes Walk, concerned residents and tree lovers,
Some great news: The planned 'tree maintenance' work scheduled for three weeks from January 8 to January 29 has been CANCELLED.
East Sussex County Council Highways department has assured interested parties that no poplars will be felled while consultation takes place with Friends of Lewes, councillors and other groups.
Well done to everyone who signed the petition and supports the campaign.
This is by no means the end of the matter however.
While it is hoped a new and acceptable long-term management plan will emerge, all options are still on the table.
The developer is still pushing to have the poplars removed.
Therefore we must keep the pressure on. Please share and re-share the link to the petition. The more signatures we have, the stronger our case. Contact your Town, District and County councillors and let them know your views (Green Party councillors have been particularly active in opposing the plan).
I also believe there should be proper consultation with the public by ESCC – a public meeting and an official forum where information can be shared so we are kept up to date and where residents can make their opinions known.

I may not be able to reply to all messages, but I will read and collate.
Thanks
