The Issue

URGENT! A developer called DOM Properties wants to build a four-story building in place of the community gardens and open space our neighbors have maintained for more than a decade at 65th and Blackstone.

According to the developer’s application to the Chicago Plan Commission, the building would include 14 2-bedroom apartments and 14 parking spaces. Everything we've planted and created there would be destroyed. That includes the vegetable and flower beds, the brick paths, the fruit trees, and the meeting platform. The mulberry tree that provides shaded growth and shelter for the entire space (and berries) will likely be torn down.

But this doesn't have to happen! We can show up at the Plan Commission hearing on October 19 and make our voices heard before they make a decision about the building plan. If you can't make it, email them before the hearing at CPC@cityofchicago.org — and sign this petition so we can show the garden has the community's support.
