Good news: Star Pubs have confirmed to the Barnet Society that they are not planning to sell The Black Horse and are actively looking for new tenants to take it on. That is a real relief, and it shows how much local interest there is in seeing the pub reopen.

However, we still think it is important to go ahead with an Asset of Community Value (ACV) application. Listing The Black Horse as an ACV does not stop new tenants from coming in; if anything, it encourages it! It also gives the community an extra layer of protection if things change in the future. It means we would have to be told if the site was ever put up for sale or redevelopment, and we would have the right to step in.

We are also really pleased that Cllr Emma Whysall has expressed her support, which should strengthen our chances when the application goes to Barnet Council.

To submit a nomination form, we would need just 21 local people to put their names to it. The council also asks for evidence that the pub supports social interests and social wellbeing, so it would be fantastic to hear from regulars and anyone who uses The Black Horse to host events such as pub quizzes, community meetings, or celebrations. You can read about the application process here. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you can support in making the application. My email is: ollygough1998@gmail.com.

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared so far. The strength of support shown through this petition has already made a real difference. It shows Barnet Council that The Black Horse and local pubs in general truly matter to people. The more backing we have, the stronger our case will be when the application is reviewed.
