For many years the preservationists of Patterson Farm Preservation, Inc. have worked in collaboration with Hawk Mountain Sanctuary’s Farmland Raptor Program to restore & monitor raptor populations. The Farmland Raptor Program focuses on four key species that are losing ground in PA: the American Kestrel, the Northern Harrier, the Short-Eared Owl and the Barn Owl.
Our efforts have resulted in several successful hatches of American Kestrels and the gathering of data about their behavior by scientific researchers. We were thrilled to spot a Northern Harrier (pictured) this week while it was hunting on Patterson Farm. Raptors are essential assistants to farmers, providing natural rodent control. Patterson Farms’ open farmland and undisturbed grassland conservation areas provide habitat essential for Raptor survival. You can ensure the sustainability of this beneficial relationship by supporting the conservation efforts of Patterson Farm Preservation, Inc. We are a 501(c)3 not for profit organization.
