Petition updateSave the Alexandra Canal Cycleway2 days left for a submission to the Environmental Impact Statement

Walking and cycling connections are still severely lacking from the current plans.  Not much has changed between the concept design and the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and draft Major Development Plan (MDP).  The new alternative route remains on the Northern side of Alexandra Canal.

There are 2 days left to make a submission on the State Government part of the EIS (related to the transport / road project).

The Federal Government part of the MDP (related to airport lands) consultation remains open for feedback until 21 February 2020.

We encourage the local community to provide feedback, emphasising, despite the strong NSW Government policy on open community space for active travel, and increasing cycling participation, this project contains severe lack of active travel (walking & cycling) connectivity:

  1. North / South - from Sydney Park to Wolli Creek (including a direct bicycle crossing of Cook's River)
  2. East / West - from Sydenham (upcoming Metro station) to Wentworth Ave / Botany.
  3. To the Mascot centre precinct
  4. To Sydney Airport Terminals (in between terminals and specifically, to T2).

Sydney Airport is a major destination and employer in this area, and current planning of this road project ignores local movement and place, and prioritises motorway speeds at the expense of local amenity.

Thank you for your ongoing support for safe and improved walking and cycling in Sydney.
