Save The Academy of St. Paul and St. Ann School
The Issue
Parents send their children to catholic schools for a quality education and spiritual guidance. Most catholic elementary schools go from Pre K-8th grade which help to foster relationships and develop a community of like minded individuals.
Families pay tuition and fundraise. Private donors contribute to tuition and other costs of running a school. There should be accountability from the Archdiocese on how funds are dispersed. Last week families from 11 different schools were notified that their schools were closing without warning and the only justification the parents got was the inability to keep the school open was lack of funding. There should have been prior notification of the status of these schools. We want change so that no other family can be devastated after investing so much time and money into an institution.
The question remains where is the money from these hardworking families going?
The change that we are seeking is notification, transparency, and clarity. The schools should have to give a full financial report to parents and stakeholders on how tuition and fundraising activities are being used. And secondly decisions to close schools should be done openly and not behind closed doors. Parents and stakeholders are too vested in these schools for them to close without prior notification.
