Thanks to everyone for your support. The direction emphasized in the petition will have significant benefits in several areas. The focus today was on shoreline related environmental benefits as well as saving tax dollars.
The Bay is dramatically silting in from street and highway runoff. This has raised water temperature, reduced depth and habitat for fish. Removal of sediment for water based construction access will not only facilitate use of barges but also produce dramatic benefits for fish. Further benefits for fish will accrue during construction due to the smaller, temporary and moving footprint of barges vs six years of shading from fixed work bridges.
To broaden our base of support several organizations were contacted today - the topics emphasized include:
Nature Conservancy - Preserve the only significant natural shoreline between the Montlake Cut and the Locks
Sierra Club - Preserve natural shoreline, bring water quality benefits on line two years earlier
Audubon Society - Preserve bird habitat
Taxpayers for Common Sense - Use our tax dollars more effectively
We are using general emails for contact to these organizations and are relying on staff for interest in distribution. If anyone has contacts within the above organizations or other environmental groups please share/email the link directly with them.
Again thanks for your signatures, and please keep on sharing the link with friends and any email groups you know of. With the numbers of signers so far a small success in sharing the link can produce dramatic results.
