SAVE SYRIAN AND TURKISH EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS, SAVE THEM ALL

An earthquake of this magnitude would be disastrous anywhere, but its effects are particularly severe in this area affected by war and instability and where earthquake safety for buildings and infrastructure is unregulated.

Our hearts break for the thousands of lives lost in this disaster, and for the survivors who are grieving, and we call on all governments and parties to respond quickly and with compassion to this devastating humanitarian disaster.

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks hit Türkiye and Syria beginning on Monday, February 6, 2023. The natural disaster has killed more than 40,000 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless in both countries. Those numbers are expected to keep rising.

The World Health Organization warned that many survivors of the disaster could face “a secondary disaster,” as cold and snow lead to worsening and horrific conditions. In the aftermath, community members and local organizations have stepped up to support each other through mutual aid networks, impromptu donation drop offs, and more.

As of February 11. There are 47,000 cases of cholera, which has been raging across Syria since August 2022, have been reported in northwest Syria.

The region is already devastated by years of war, counterrevolution, displacement, and severe economic inequality and poverty. Many people in the region already carry trauma from surviving bombings, shelling, air strikes, and explosions.

It is crucial that the international community—particularly wealthy countries with strong geopolitical influence—send aid to local trusted groups working on the ground, in the form of money, supplies, and rescue workers, and that they facilitate the opening of the Syria-Turkey border to this desperately needed aid.

The international community must pressure the parties controlling the Syria-Turkey border to allow access of humanitarian assistance, Proper machinery, fuel, rescue workers, and emergency hospitals and medical treatment are needed immediately.

Until late on February 13, eight days after the first earthquake, the Syrian government, with support from its long-time ally Russia, rejected the use of other border crossings from Turkey into northwest Syria, insisting instead that all aid to Syria must come via government-controlled areas.

The Syrian government has for many years weaponized aid and obstructed it from crossing front lines from government-held parts of the country into nongovernment-controlled territory.

The international community must set aside geopolitical conflict to respond to this humanitarian disaster, and must unconditionally open the Syria-Turkey border to desperately needed humanitarian aid and refrain from using this disaster to further their own political or military objectives.

إن حدوث زلزال بهذا الحجم سيكون كارثيًا في أي مكان ، ولكن آثاره شديدة بشكل خاص في هذه المنطقة المتأثرة بالحرب وعدم الاستقرار وحيث تكون سلامة المباني والبنية التحتية من الزلازل غير منظمة.

ضرب زلزال قوته 7.8 درجة و الى هذه اللحظة هناك توابع ,في تركيا وسوريا ابتداء من يوم الاثنين 6 فبراير 2023. تسببت الكارثة الطبيعية في مقتل أكثر من 40 ألف شخص وتشريد الملايين في كلا البلدين. من المتوقع أن تستمر هذه الأرقام في الارتفاع

حذرت منظمة الصحة العالمية من أن العديد من الناجين من الكارثة قد يواجهون "كارثة ثانية" ، حيث يؤدي البرد والثلج إلى تدهور الظروف المروعة. في أعقاب ذلك ، صعد أعضاء المجتمع والمنظمات المحلية لدعم بعضهم البعض من خلال شبكات المساعدة المتبادلة ، والتبرعات المرتجلة

حتى 11 فبراير ، تم الإبلاغ عن 47000 حالة إصابة بالكوليرا ، المنتشرة في جميع أنحاء
سوريا منذ أغسطس ، في شمال غرب سوريا.

لقد دمرت المنطقة بالفعل سنوات من الحرب والديكتاتورية, الثورة والنزوح والتفاوت الاقتصادي الشديد والفقر. يعاني العديد من الأشخاص في المنطقة بالفعل من صدمات عميقة ناجمة عن النجاة من القصف والضربات الجوية والانفجارات وعن خذلان المجتمع الدولي له على مر السنوات الماضية

هناك ضرورة ملحة أن يرسل المجتمع الدولي - وخاصة الدول الغنية ذات التأثير الجيوسياسي القوي - المساعدات إلى الجماعات المحلية الموثوقة العاملة على الأرض ، في شكل أموال وإمدادات وعمال إنقاذ ، وأن تسهل فتح الحدود بين سوريا وتركيا. الحدود لهذه المساعدات التي تمس الحاجة إليها.

يجب على المجتمع الدولي الضغط على الأطراف التي تسيطر على الحدود السورية التركية للسماح بوصول المساعدات الإنسانية والآليات المناسبة والوقود وعمال الإنقاذ ومستشفيات الطوارئ والعلاج الطبي على الفور.

من الضروري أن يرسل المجتمع الدولي - وخاصة الدول الغنية ذات التأثير الجيوسياسي القوي - المساعدات إلى الجماعات المحلية الموثوقة العاملة على الأرض ، في شكل أموال وإمدادات وعمال إنقاذ ، وأن تسهل فتح الحدود بين سوريا وتركيا. يجب على المجتمع الدولي الضغط على الأطراف التي تسيطر على الحدود السورية التركية للسماح بوصول المساعدات الإنسانية. هناك حاجة فورية للإمدادات الإنسانية والوقود وعمال الإنقاذ ومستشفيات الطوارئ والعلاج الطبي, و من الضروري ادخال اليات ثقيلة لانقاذ الناجيين من هذا الزلزال

اعتبارًا من يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 7 فبراير / شباط ، بدأت بعض الجهات من النظام المجرم بمحاولة في تشويه سمعة عمال الإنقاذ في الشمال السوري ،ومنهم من تعرض للخطر, وقاموا بيمنع وصول المساعدات الضرورية والعاجلة إلى شمال سوريا

هذه كارثة إنسانية ، ويجب أن تفتح الحدود السورية التركية دون قيد أو شرط للمساعدات الإنسانية التي تمس الحاجة إليها والامتناع عن استخدام هذه الكارثة لتحقيق أهدافها السياسية أو العسكرية

لقد تُرك الشعب السوري بمفرده في مواجهة الزلزال الكارثي ، تمامًا كما تُركوا بمفردهم من قبل في مواجهة نظامهم الإجرامي المستبد. وحتى مع فهمنا للاجراءات البيروقراطية داخل الامم داخل المنظمة الدولية, و ان هذه البيروقراطية ادت الى تاخير المساعدات و الدعم مما ادى الى حصد الالاف من الارواح البريئة

حتى وقت متأخر من يوم 13 فبراير ، أي بعد ثمانية أيام من الزلزال الأول ، رفضت الحكومة السورية ، بدعم من حليفتها القديمة روسيا ، استخدام معابر حدودية أخرى من تركيا إلى شمال غرب سوريا ، وأصرت بدلاً من ذلك على أن جميع المساعدات لسوريا يجب أن تأتي
عبرها. المناطق التي تسيطر عليها الحكومة

لقد خذلنا حتى الآن الناس في شمال غرب سوريا. إنهم محقون في شعورهم بالتخلي عنهم - رئيس الإغاثة في الأمم المتحدة.
