Save Stevie! 🐷
The Issue
Imagine having a beloved pet who feels like family, only to be told that they are not welcome in your city. This is the heartbreaking situation we find ourselves in here in Ashtabula, OH. For eight wonderful months, our mini pig has been a cherished member of our family. We have treated her with all the love and care any family member deserves. However, we were recently reported to the humane society due to Ashtabula's current regulations that prohibit keeping mini pigs within city limits. In just two weeks, we are faced with the devastating prospect of having to re-home her.
Mini pigs are becoming increasingly popular as household pets due to their intelligence, affectionate nature, and compatibility with family life. Over 16,000 households in the United States have adopted mini pigs as pets, enjoying their companionship and the rich, rewarding experience they bring.
We urge the city council of Ashtabula to reconsider its stance on mini pigs. Many cities across the nation, including major metropolitan areas, have adapted their regulations to allow these animals, recognizing that with proper care and management, mini pigs pose no more risk or nuisance than cats or dogs.
Simple measures, such as ensuring vaccinations, regular veterinary care, and proper enclosures, can easily address health and safety concerns. Educating mini pig owners and establishing clear guidelines for their care can create a harmonious coexistence within the community.
Revising the city's regulations would not only allow our family to keep our beloved mini pig but would also bring joy and companionship to others in Ashtabula who wish to welcome a mini pig into their homes.
Please sign this petition to show your support for changing the city's regulations to allow mini pigs as pets. Together, we can help ensure families like ours are not torn apart due to outdated laws. Let's make Ashtabula a more pet-friendly and understanding city.
