We need you! This isn’t just chisme.
More than 500 people have already signed our petition, but we need to turn that support into organized community action. We need parents, alumni, parishioners, and community members willing to step up and help make sure our voices are heard.
St. Peter’s is more than a school. We are part of the fabric, history, and cultural identity of San Francisco’s Mission District.
St. Peter’s has, by far, the highest percentages of Latino students among Archdiocese of San Francisco schools. Yet the two schools with the highest Latino student populations are expected to share administration.
We have to ask ourselves: Would this arrangement ever be considered acceptable for two predominantly white, more affluent schools?
Would families in those communities be expected to accept fewer dedicated administrative resources and less individual attention? Why should our families be expected to accept a different standard?
Our children and families deserve the same level of investment, attention, and support as every other school in the Archdiocese.
Despite more than 500 people signing our petition and families raising serious concerns, the administration has dismissed our efforts as simply: “Chisme.”
It was literally called “chisme” in the latest bulletin sent to families.
These are not rumors or gossip. These are real concerns about our children’s education, our school’s future, and the impact on an entire neighborhood.
Many of the people who pay the money that keeps the school open are not happy. Ms. Moodie is now very aware of this and has publicly dismissed it. She expects us to complain amongst ourselves and then accept the situation anyways.
Father Moises has made no attempts at outreach. Families are planning on leaving and that will eventually lead to a closure.
A closure would affect far more than the students currently enrolled at St. Peter’s. It would hurt families, disrupt children’s education, and remove an important community institution from the 24th Street corridor. St. Peter’s is part of the Mission’s cultural and educational landscape. Losing it would have consequences for neighborhood families, local businesses, and the Latino community that has helped shape this neighborhood.
We need to organize beyond the school walls and build a coalition of people who understand what is at stake.
Current families: Fight for your school before deciding to leave.
HERE IS WHERE WE NEED VOLUNTEERS:
1. CONTACT LOCAL MEDIA
We need volunteers willing to contact reporters, pitch our story, and help get our concerns in front of the public.
Please help us reach:
● El Tecolote: https://eltecolote.org
● Mission Local: https://missionlocal.org
● The San Francisco Standard: https://sfstandard.com
● KQED: https://www.kqed.org
● ABC7 News: https://abc7news.com
We want journalists to investigate what is happening at St. Peter’s, hear directly from families, and understand the broader implications for the Mission District.
2. CONNECT WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS
We need people willing to reach out to neighborhood organizations, advocacy groups, community leaders, and local businesses.
Here are specific organizations to contact:
Calle 24 Latino Cultural District
● Email: info@calle24sf.org
● Phone: (415) 658-7930
● Website: https://www.calle24sf.org
Ask them to help bring attention to the potential loss of an important Latino community institution.
Mission Merchants Association
● Email: info@missionmerchants.org
● Phone: (415) 488-5010
● Website: https://www.missionmerchants.org
Ask them to share information with local merchants and discuss the economic and cultural impact a school closure could have on the 24th Street corridor.
24th Street merchants and local business owners
We need volunteers to personally reach out to businesses along 24th Street. Ask them to:
● Display Save St. Peter’s flyers.
● Share our petition.
● Sign a community support letter.
● Help spread awareness about how losing St. Peter’s could affect the neighborhood.
What should we ask these organizations to do?
- Share our petition and campaign information.
- Connect us with local media and community leaders.
- Consider issuing a statement of support.
- Participate in or help organize a community meeting about the future of St. Peters.
3. NOVEMBER 5TH PTG MEETING – WE NEED HELP!
We are looking for someone willing to distribute Save St. Peter’s flyers at the November 5th PTG meeting.
We want parents attending the meeting to know about the petition, understand the concerns being raised, and have an opportunity to get involved.
We also need volunteers to help organize additional parent and community meetings so we can coordinate our efforts, share information, and plan next steps.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Email us at savesanpedrosf@gmail.com
Please include:
● Your name (if comfortable sharing it).
● Your phone number so we can coordinate directly.
● How you would like to help.
● Any community contacts, media connections, or Facebook groups you recommend.
If you prefer to remain anonymous publicly, that is completely fine. We want to respect families’ privacy while building a strong, organized effort.
MORE THAN 500 PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY SPOKEN UP. NOW WE NEED TO ORGANIZE.
Our families should not have to fight to receive the same attention and resources afforded to other school communities. Our concerns about the school deserve better than being dismissed as “chisme.” Our community deserves a voice in decisions that will affect its future.
St. Peter’s belongs to the Mission. Not Barbara Moodie or even Father Moises.
