On Tuesday, Horry County Council voted to defer the rezoning for the Conway Medical Center parcel across from Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve to allow CMC time to discuss selling the property to the SC Department of Natural Resources. While the fight is not yet over, this puts us one step closer to a conservation outcome. We want to thank everyone who attended the meeting, wrote a letter to council, and signed the petition. We couldn’t have gotten this far without the support of the over 24,000 of you who have spoken up!
In celebration of this step forward, we invite you to join us for a guided nature walk through Lewis Ocean Bay!
Get outside with our North Coast Project Manager and registered Wildlife Biologist, Trapper Fowler, next Friday, March 1st from 10AM-12PM where you will learn about the flora and fauna, the importance of this unique habitat, and gain insights to the threats that surround the area.
RSVP as space is limited!
Throughout the nature walk, you may be lucky enough to spot animal tracks of deer, raccoons, or black bears, or catch a glimpse of bald eagles, song birds and a variety of woodpeckers, including the federally endangered Red-cockaded woodpecker.
Don’t forget to bring your binoculars, sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle, and make sure wear clothes appropriate for trekking in the woods.
If you can’t make this nature walk, join us for another one on May 10th!
