Save Sound Avenue! Oppose hotel & resort development. Preserve our farms and rural charm.

The Issue

Save Sound Avenue from Commercial Hotel & Resort Development

The Riverhead Town Board is considering legislation that would rezone the agricultural lands along Sound Avenue north to Long Island Sound to allow for the development of commercial hotels and resorts. If approved, this zoning change would present the potential for the development  of more than 2,000 hotel rooms along Sound Avenue and the destruction of this historic corridor and the area’s rural character.

Sign this petition to send a message to Riverhead’s elected officials that residents do not want commercial hotel and resort development on Sound Avenue. We want to preserve our farms, scenic vistas and this historic area.

We also urge you to attend, listen and speak out on this important issue at a public forum on September 18 at 6 p.m.at Riverhead Town Hall located at 4 West 2nd St.

And we encourage you to write to Riverhead Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard  and to the four other members of the Riverhead Town Board. You will find their email addresses below.

You may view additional information and a sample letter to the Town Board on the Greater Jamesport Civic Association’s website.

Use the following addresses to email the Riverhead Town Supervisor and Council Members. Please be sure to email the Town Clerk, James Wooten, too, so that your letter is entered into the official public record.
