Rest assured, whilst we may have been a little quiet - we have been busy behind the scenes.

Recently, the Sutherland Shire Council elections took place, and while council elections statewide were routine, what stood out was the involvement of the SSFA in this political process. The SSFA's social media post, which appeared to endorse current council members such as Councillor Laura Cowell (SSFA President) and Mayor Carmelo Pesce, seemed to be an attempt to influence players and parents to support the existing council.

The content of this post framed current council works—projects that are long overdue and insufficient—as a reason to endorse the current political leaders. This move represents an unprecedented and concerning attempt to use the association for political gain. The post also referenced Football NSW which we believe was not endorsed.

In addition our research found no other sports associations have made similar political posts, with many confirming that their constitutions strictly prohibit involvement in politics. This is as it should be. Sports organisations must remain politically neutral to focus on their core mission: serving their members and fostering a fair and inclusive community.

While we await the official election results, we want to emphasise the need for a clear separation between sports governance and political agendas within the SSFA. Our association should not be a platform for political influence, but rather a place where the sport thrives free from such interference. We urge all members to continue supporting our call for change to protect the integrity of our beloved sport.
