Save Slippery Rock's MSAT Program
The Issue
For over half a century, Slippery Rock University's Athletic Training program has been a cornerstone of our community, shaping the futures and careers of countless students. Beginning as a Bachelor's degree, and later expanding into the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program, it has a long and proud history of producing skilled professionals who make significant contributions in the fields of sports medicine, rehabilitation, and athletic healthcare.
We are distraught to learn that this esteemed program is set to graduate its final cohort in 2028, effectively shutting down thereafter. The decision to discontinue new admissions not only affects future students but also dismantles an essential educational pillar within Slippery Rock's community.
The MSAT program is not merely an academic pursuit; it represents opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning, collaborate with certified professionals, and prepare for careers in rapidly evolving industries. Slippery Rock’s unique approach within the Rock AT community provides our students with unparalleled experiences that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application. The closure of this program will be a devastating loss.
Moreover, closing down the program undermines the legacy of excellence that has been established over decades. It disregards the investments made by faculty, alumni, and supporters who have dedicated themselves to maintaining the high standards of education and training that have characterized our institution.
We urge the administration of Slippery Rock University to reconsider this decision. By exploring alternative funding options, partnerships with healthcare organizations, or even re-evaluating the program's structure, we can preserve the MSAT program’s operations and ensure its persistence beyond 2028.
This isn’t just about saving a program; it’s about safeguarding opportunities and nurturing the potential of future generations striving to make a difference in athletic training. Let us join together to voice our support for Slippery Rock’s MSAT program.
We invite you to stand with us. Sign this petition to help keep Slippery Rock University’s MSAT program alive and thriving. In addition, please email SRU administrators to advocate for Rock AT.
