Update on Our Efforts to Save Sledge Forest

First, a huge thank you to every single one of you who has signed and shared our petition. Because of you, we now have over 11,000 online signatures plus another 1,000 or so gathered on paper—that’s more than 12,000 voices raised in just 10 months!

But we’re not stopping there. Our goal is nothing short of protecting all 4,000+ acres of Sledge Forest in permanent conservation. We are in the driver’s seat, and with your continued support, we know we can get there.

And while it may have seemed quiet over the summer, please know this: the Save Sledge Forest Team has never stopped working. Behind the scenes, we are pushing every possible avenue—legal, political, community, and conservation—to stop the destruction of this irreplaceable forest and protect it for this and future generations. Quiet moments are not pauses…they’re strategy!

On Monday, October 6th at 4:00 PM, we will deliver your signatures to the New Hanover County Commissioners at their monthly meeting. This is our moment to show just how important this issue is to our community. The presentation will happen at the end of the meeting, which means you can join us after work if needed—and yes, there’s still plenty of time to plan ahead and ask to leave work early if you can! 

We’ll gather outside the courthouse at 3:00 PM to stand together before going in. We hope you agree that a room overflowing with supporters sends a clear and powerful message that can not be ignored.

Between now and then, let’s aim for an incredible milestone: 15,000 signatures. Can you help us get there? Share the petition again on your social media, text it to friends, or come join us at a petition drive. These drives are energizing, fun, and a chance to meet others who believe that feeling empowered is so much better than sitting on the sidelines.
