Save Shirley Heath and Addington (Shirley) Hills

The Issue

Addington Golf Club has announced plans to build a driving range on Shirley Heath and fence off other areas to keep the public out. They also want to take control of Addington Hills (also known as Shirley Hills).

So far it appears that Croydon Council have raised no objections to these plans and so it is vital that we take a stand to stop our public nature sites being handed over to this private members club.

Addington Hills has been a public site for over a hundred years and Shirley Heath for nearly as long. Both sites are registered as Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation graded at Metropolitan importance – the highest level for sites in London.

Local volunteers help look after both sites and while they could do with more support from public authorities, just handing them over to a private club is completely wrong.

This petition is to demand that the Mayor of Croydon refuses to hand these sites over to Addington Golf Club and does not allow the club to build their facilities on our public land.

Please sign this petition and pass it on to everyone you know who lives in the area, people who visit these sites, and anyone else who cares about looking after our public nature sites.
