Hello everyone,
Its a long time since I've posted an update on here, and a lot has happened:
- Redrow have withdrawn their application to develop the land east side of Sandford Mill Lane - No doubt public pressure played a part in their decision.
- The Hopkins Homes (Manor Farm) development still hasn't gone to the Planning Committee, so we're waiting for that to happen.
In the meantime another application appeared out of nowhere, that wasn't even in the local plan:
- Stonebond applied to build on the small plot of land by the Fox & Raven that floods regularly. We fought them and Councillors refused the application, against the recommendation of Officers, which almost never happens.
- Stonebond appealed the decision, and its gone to a Planning Enquiry.
- Myself and others have registered as an official party to the Enquiry under the name "The Custodians of the Chelmer Valley Floodplain / Water Meadows".
I have added a page on my new "Chelmsflood" website for people to register as Custodians, so that we can demostrate public support to the Council and the Planning Inspector, and simmultanously keep you updated about whats happening, flooding news and any new planing applications we need to fight. I would be very grateful if you can sign up.

It has been a relentless struggle to defend our river valley from one inappropriate development after another. What started as a simple petition, led to a Facebook group, which led to a Website, and now I'm giving evidence at a Planning Enquiry that I hope will shape planning policy in Chelmsford.
Gathering and analysing photographs, video and data to demonstrate the real flood risk in Chelmsford, and getting those findings on the Public Record (via the Chelmsflood website and by submitting it as evidence at the Planning Enquiry) is a game changer. Finally they will have no choice but to start listening to us.
Your continued support is truly appreciated.
See you on Chelmsflood! There is also a link to my email on there if any of you want to get in touch. I would love to hear from you.
All the best,
Mike.
