Hello everyone,

I've updated my map showing the Hopkins and Redrow developments, and the outline of the Green Wedge that they are being built over.

Chelmsford's Green Wedges have been protected for decades. They were ultimately defined in Chelmsford's Local Development Framework in 2008. A detailed boundary definition is given in a report from 2017, which purported to assess the extent and rationale for the existing Green Wedges and their potential extension along the River Valleys, but in fact seems to have been used by the City Council as a means to sneak through a predetermined decision to remove two areas from Chelmsford's Green Wedge. Roselawn Farm in Broomfield, and Manor Farm in Great Baddow. There was no democratic mandate for this. On the contrary the report acknowledges there was a historical precedent for protecting these areas and a mandate for protecting and extending the Green Wedges obtained through consultation. This was a serious betrayal of public trust.
