The Sand Hill Scout Reservation holds a special place in the hearts of many families and scout groups, mine included. It's a sprawling 1,300-acre paradise where life-changing experiences have forged friendships, leadership skills, and unforgettable memories. It's more than just land—it's a sanctuary where young scouts first set up tents, learn the importance of teamwork, and discover the beauty of the great outdoors.

Unfortunately, the Scouting Console has decided to sell this precious land to mitigate a financial deficit. The proposed project plans to develop over 600 acres into residential and commercial properties, offering minimal recreational space. This transformation doesn't align with the vision of our scouting community and certainly not with the wishes of the deceased landowner, who specified in his will that the land should not be sold for profit.

We must safeguard the environmental, educational, and cultural benefits of Sand Hill from being erased. The loss of this natural habitat would disrupt local ecosystems and diminish an invaluable educational resource for future generations. The reservation serves as a critical green space, contributing to biodiversity and offering a haven for wildlife.

We propose a solution rooted in respecting both the past and future of this priceless land. Rather than selling it for development, we can explore conservation easements as an alternative revenue stream. Working with conservation organizations, we can ensure the land's protection while receiving financial support needed to resolve the current deficit.

Furthermore, launching fundraising initiatives involving the local community and leveraging public grants can assist in covering financial gaps, protecting the reservation’s legacy and purpose. This approach respects the landowner's wishes and preserves the area's integrity.

Time is of the essence. If we do not act now, we risk losing a treasured oasis that future scouts deserve to explore, enjoy, and cherish.
