Just before the October 18 deadline, the Bureau of Reclamation has just sent a letter to the San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors requesting renegotiation of their contract. Thank you for helping to make this happen!
What comes next? This contract renegotiation is a great opportunity to protect and restore the San Joaquin River and the San Francisco Bay-Delta ecosystem and to make sure that everyone does their fair share in conserving our most precious - and finite - resource, water. The Exchange Contractors should be required to protect the environment and conserve water like everyone else—senior water rights and lucrative contracts don’t give them a pass on their responsibility to protect water resources that belong to all of us.
You will be hearing from us soon on how you can help ensure that the new contract lives up to its promise.
