The Chinese language program at Sammamish high school has been around for about 30 years. The program has built a community and a family. It's affecting the students, the teachers and the community. If they take away the program; the culture, the language, the learning goes away. It will forever change the school. The district is cutting away this program starting from Chinese 1.They are using OUT-DATED numbers from the past years during the COVID-19 pandemic to justify this. This year almost 30 students signed up for Chinese 1. The program has exposed us to rich culture and authentic experiences in addtional to the language, including lunar new year celebrations, dragon boat festival, calligraphy and ink painting, traditional dancing, learning the musical intrument the Pipa, lion dancing, dragon dancing, Kung Fu, making moon cakes, pot luck, and many more to come.
