Queen Regent Kaʻahumanu died in one of the two 2 story houses she and King Kamehameha I built on the Kūlani lands where a beautiful dense forest stretches makai from the east side of the Mānoa Chinese Cemetery, making this area very sacred to Hawaiians.  The "houses of the aliʻi" were documented by cemetery historian Wah Chan Thom ("The Story of the Mānoa Chinese Cemetery, 1985" as well as in cemetery newsletters.

According to Peter Youngʻs Images of Old Hawaiʻi account, the critically ill  Kaʻahumanu was carried into her beloved Mānoa from Waikiki on her bed after her doctor Gerritt Judd told her she should not get up. Her last words to Hiram Bingham were "Iʻm going now, where the mansions are ready". The mansions were the two 2 story houses in what is now the Mānoa Chinese Cemetery forest, making the entire area very sacred to Hawaiians. https://imagesofoldhawaii.com/together-forever/

Proposed 3 story cement atrocity Månoa Banyan Court, the size of 4 football fields, would destroy and desecrate this sacred place for the profits of the Lin Yee Chung Association trustees. This proposal is an outrageous example how 201H-38 legislation is a legislative Frankenstein, creating the potential for greedy landowners and developers to destroy cultural historic sites and irreplaceable environmental gems with impunity. Charles Wong and LYCA's  Månoa Banyan Court proposal should be summarily denied by DPP and 201H-38, which recklessly endangers all of Hawai'i,  should be repealed.
