Save Ryde Splash Park — Support its Refurbishment and Preservation
The Issue
We, the community of Ryde, are asking the Isle of Wight Council to work with us to find a way forward to refurbish and reopen Ryde Splash Park in its current location.
The Splash Park has long been a well-loved space for children, families, and tourists alike. It provides a safe, fun, and interactive place for children to play and learn, and it plays a key role in the health, happiness, and unity of our community.
The park was originally set up in memory of Isaac Hayward, a young disabled child who sadly passed away. His love of water and the knowledge that water play can be highly therapeutic and developmental, especially for children with additional needs, makes this park particularly special. It stands as a living memorial — a place where children of all ages and abilities can come together and enjoy a shared space.
The park is currently in a state of disrepair and needs significant refurbishment. Without action, we risk losing a valuable community asset — not just a place to play, but a space that brings people together and supports children’s health and well-being.
We are reaching out to the Isle of Wight Council to join us in envisioning a renewed future for Ryde Splash Park at its current location. This location holds immeasurable significance for those who have experienced its magic and for new families who seek out places where every child is welcome and valued. The park not only represents a tribute to a cherished child but also encapsulates the spirit and unity of our community.
Restoring Ryde Splash Park requires not just financial resources but a collaborative effort between the council and our community. We propose engaging local businesses, volunteers, and organizations who believe in the power of inclusive play environments. Together, we can explore avenues for funding, including grants, crowd-sourcing, and partnerships, ensuring that the refurbishment project is both sustainable and reflective of our community’s dedication to inclusivity and joy.
We appreciate that the Council is open to hearing ideas and exploring options. We therefore ask the Isle of Wight Council to:
✅ Consider all possibilities for renovating and reopening the park in its current location.
✅ Consult with Ryde Town Council, the community, and relevant stakeholders to find a solution that meets the needs of all.
✅ Design a space that is accessible, sustainable, and true to its original purpose — honouring the memory of Isaac Hayward and serving future generations of children in Ryde.
Together, we can make sure this valuable community space has a future
Join us in urging the Isle of Wight Council to prioritise the refurbishment and reopening of Ryde Splash Park. Let us honor Isaac’s memory and provide future generations with a place that celebrates life, learning, and laughter. Sign the petition today and be a part of this meaningful endeavour to restore a cherished community space.
