Did you know that Rutherglen’s only kindergarten service is at real risk of closing in 2027?

In September, Glenview Health announced that it would be closing both its After School Care and Kindergarten programs in our town by the end of 2026.

Glenview Health has indicated that a new provider will take over the Kindergarten service. BUT this is far from a done deal. As things stand, no lease has been signed for the use of the kinder building with Indigo Shire for 2027.

Our wonderful kindergarten staff, the children who attend the centre and their families are being left in limbo.

The reality is that Rutherglen’s only kindergarten service is at risk. If it closes, local families could be left without access to essential early childhood education and care, potentially forcing them to travel to nearby towns or rely on expensive private alternatives.

Can we afford to take that risk?

While Indigo Shire did not create this situation, they have an important role to play in helping resolve it. The time to act is now. A lease needs to be secured so that our kindergarten can continue operating in 2027.

We need answers, certainty and action — not more uncertainty for our children, families and dedicated kindergarten staff.
