Hi Everyone,
Last night, we had nearly 100 people show up to our community discussion about saving the Roosevelt Building in Keego Harbor, Michigan! It was wonderful to see so many from the Lakes area willing to support our cause.
During the meeting, several developers shared their vision for the building and the lack of engagement from the WBSB. Their experiences make it clear that the West Bloomfield School Board is so terrified of losing students to a hypothetical charter school that they are willing to charge taxpayers up to $1M OR MORE to demolish our beloved building.
Here's an article from the Oakland Press that recaps our meeting:
And here's a PDF copy of the article if you're not a subscriber:

As you'll see, MANY have come forward with solutions that would mitigate the charter school concern, and the WBSB continues to reject our ideas.
WHY?
I have NO idea, but I'd love it if you would ask them. :)
Please consider emailing the WB School Board, asking them to be considerate of taxpayer funds and put the building up for sale. You can reach the board at wbfboe@wbsd.org. When you email them, please feel free to cc me (colleen.wade@mac.com) so we can document your responses!
We are also asking local WBSD residents to attend the school board meeting on Monday, January 22nd to provide public comment. We must have high attendance for these meetings, so please join if you can. If you're not sure what to say, let me know and I'll help with talking points.
Also, if you'd like more updates and info on how to help us, please join our Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/saveroosevelt/
This is only inevitable if we allow it, and every small act of support helps us tackle the giant steps needed to win.
We are so thankful for each of you,
The Save the Roosevelt Building Volunteer Team
