We have Yard Signs and Window Stickers now!!! What a great site riding down Montgomery Rd & Landing Rd and the view of "Help SAVE ROCKBURN PARK" in almost every yard. Signs are also up through out Ellicott City, Columbia, Catonsville, Woodstock, Windsor Mill. How exciting.... Now you will see the yellow window sticker on backs of cars. Our Facebook Group today added 84 new members! That too is exciting.! A HUGE Bike & Hike Event will be taking place real soon! ****January 20, 2018 **** Here are some details. You can also check out the Facebook Group to find more information. ---------What is this ride all about? It is about trying to keep all of the forest at Rock Burn Branch Park just that, forest. There currently is a proposal being looked at by the Howard County Board of Education to utilize a large portion of Rockburn's woods for a high school. Per the BOE's policies, approximately 40 to 50 acres of land would be needed for just the school. This ride is to show our mountain biking communities support to keep rock burn a park, and not develop it into a school. The more people who show to this event, the better. There are Facebook groups to both saving the park, as well as building a school in Rockburn. For information on what is being done to try to save Rockburn I would suggest you join the "Save Rockburn" group on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/SAVEROCKBURNPARK/), or email saverockburn@gmail.com. Both of these will give you links to a petition to sign, as well as email addresses for the board of education members, county council people, as well as our state legislatures who all could have impact in the decision making process, and are good places to ask questions for information to try to understand what is currently happening. ---------What are the ride details: Rockburn has around 7 miles of beginner friendly trails. We will be doing a loop around these trails, and hitting most of the park in the process (actual ride is around 5 miles for one loop). The trails here range from single track to double track, and a little stone road for fun. The only obstacles really are some roots, and maybe a tree, if it has fallen recently. Recs and Parks does a very good job of keeping the trails groomed for beginners. There are only a few hills, and nothing is too long or really too steep. If / When this ride gets larger, we will probably split up into different levels of ride, and maybe do a couple of loops for the more advanced riders. There will be a short pre ride description / information given at 9:45am, and rides will start to roll out at 10:00AM. ---------Who can participate? Everyone who shows and signs the waivers, and has a proper bike and helmet. MVD, Muddy Pedals, MORE, the Patapsco Misfits to name a few are all working together to support this ride. We will have plenty of people onsite to aid with pointers of MTBing, as well as just make sure everyone stays safe and enjoys the ride. ---------What do we do after the ride? Stay tuned, but we are in planning to try to set an apres ride spot to show how our regional park not only is an outdoor wonder, but also show how it has economic impacts on the local businesses. ---------What to bring? A good attitude in support of the park! Also, a helmet will be required for this ride. Bring water, as the water is off at the bathrooms, and will not be available for this ride. If you have trail ready tools, etc for trail fixes, you will want to bring those also. It is middle of winter also, so be prepared and dress properly!
