The river is a means of livelihood to people. Some people have taken to fishing, farming by banks, digging sand from the river-bed for building and operating car wash ventures. In the past, very early in the morning and late in the evening, fishermen setting nets and some harvesting the fish from the previously laid nets but all these activities are absent for now.

The river is useless because of the waste that are present in it. The cause of the change in colour of the river is due to illegal mining activities happening on the ijesa axis of the state and also that the river would have been polluted.

The community where the water flow through are the affected people because they make use of the water for there means of livelihood. 
The illegal mining activities need to stop and the state commissioner for environment and the state Government have the power to stop this activities so as to increase the standard of living of the rural dwellers.

If individuals did not help to sign this petition, then the life of the people making use of this water is at risk because there is decomposition of metals in the water which changes the colour and the illegal mining will continue but if the  petition is signed, then the illegal mining will stop which will restore back the cleanliness of the water making it possible for the dwellers to continue there day to day activities and increase there standard of living.
