Hello Fellow Underpass Supporters,

Here's an update on our efforts to save or replace the underpass:

Kingston Council has installed a solar-powered device near the underpass to monitor its usage. The more we use this pathway, the stronger the data we can provide to support our cause. So, let's keep walking and cycling through it!

A big thank you to those who put up signs with QR codes and messages encouraging people to sign the petition—your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Following my recent meeting with the Planning and Communications team from LXRA, I learned that their current plans to close the underpass were because they were planning to extend the last stabling track (closest to the bridge) further toward the creek, which would encroach on the underpass pathway. This extension is required due to the ramping of the track for the overpass at Bear and MacDonald St.

I proposed several alternatives to save the underpass:

1.Options to save the path:

a) Limiting the stabling yard to 3 stabling tracks instead of requiring 4.
b) Raising the stabling yard rather than extending it further.
c) Utilizing the space to the east of the stabling yard instead of expanding into the underpass pathway.

2. Asked for updates on the previously discussed plans for replacing the underpass before those talks were halted.

Unfortunately, my queries were met with limited responses and little willingness for meaningful dialogue—something I had anticipated.

Currently, I'm awaiting the response to a Freedom of Information request, which is due soon.

At the latest council election a candidate that supported was elected which is promising to get this item progressing at a council level.

Thank you all for your ongoing support—together, we can keep pushing for a better outcome.

Kind regards,

Lionel
