Thanks to everyone's efforts, Hutt City Council set aside money in its Long Term Plan to repair Petone Wharf and hopefully secure the long-term future of the whole of this community icon.  Now Wellington City Council has decided to demolish the City-to-Sea Bridge, linking Te Ngakau, the Civic Centre, with Wellington's waterfront across 6-laned Jervois Quay.  The destruction will take special cultural art along with it, as well as putting people at risk having to cross a main traffic arterial at ground level.  As with our Wharf, peoples memories, stories and values are embedded in the Bridge, the paved area which is part of it, and the nikau-lined pedestrian way back to Harris Street in the city. Wellington's City-to-Sea Bridge is an important and iconic structure which helps make Wellington, New Zealand's capital city, the vibrant place that it is.
