Residents of Owlthorpe need to work together.
Please read our mission statement: https://www.ecological-owlthorpe.org/Editorial.htm our objectives have remained the same. We wish to save Owlthorpe as an upstream nature-based solution stopping downstream flooding. From the Header Waters of the Ochre Dyke in Birley Woods down to Moss Way. The Environment Agency, the Forestry Commission and Natural England have jointly committed to “nature-based solutions to tackle the climate emergency,” to which Ecological Owlthorpe has the potential to make an excellent contribution.
The problem we face is that SCC wish to ignore government directive and build New Houses in Owlthorpe.
Extracts from minutes of the October 2023 Sheffield South East (LAC) meeting: https://www.ecological-owlthorpe.org/Printed%20minutes%2005102023%201830%20South%20East%20Local%20Area%20Committee.pdf
6.2 Roger Marsh: “The agreement that we had with SCC was that we would be supported in this environmental work on the understanding that we would not carry out any work or object to the building of houses on Sites C, D, and E.”
“Site F was removed from current Local Plan.” SCC released the Section 106 monies retained by the builder of Woodland Heights housing development. Once the £67,455 Section 106 monies had been released, we completed many planned environmental projects. “A large proportion of this work was paid for by grants from Sheffield South East Ward Pots.” I must say that residents of Owlthorpe are impressed with the work carried out in creating our oasis.
But now SCC have reneged on their agreement with Rodger Marsh and reinstated Site F into the Sheffield local plan, why? Sites C, D, and E. in Owlthorpe were put up for sale. Site E has been developed. The planning Inspectorate were expecting 150 New Houses out of Site C and D. But now SCC have removed site C and D and reintroduced Site F with a proposal to build 150 New Houses on Site F.
Many residents of Owlthorpe have sent Letters to SCC explaining we do not want any more property developments in Owlthorpe. Many residents of Owlthorpe have signed Owlthorpe Fields Action Group’s petition to stop the building on site C, D and E on the understanding that Site F was safe from development.
Rodger Marsh has started a petition entitled: “save Owlthorpe environmental projects” please sign his petition.
