Petition Update No.2
First of all, we would like to thank you for signing our petition. We have exceeded 700 signatures and have 9 promoters.
To enable the petition to gather even more momentum we would be very grateful if you would share this petition with friends, family, and likeminded people.
Sheffield City Council (SCC) plans to build on Phase 2 of Owlthorpe Grassland Grazing Project. This cannot be achieved without the destruction of hedgerows that had been managed under the Natural England’s Higher Level Stewardship Scheme and classified by Natural England as of “High Environmental Value”. This will destroy the carbon capture that we have achieved so far. The funding of new hedgerows came from Sheffield City Council’s Ward Pot for Carbon Sequestration.
You may think that SCC Planning Department would know that Phase 2 of the Owlthorpe Grassland Grazing Project is not “Just a field” but a local community award winning project. However, communication within SCC leaves much to be desired.
Glynis Chapman SCC Councillor for Mosborough has given her support for this petition stating “As a collective of local people this is what we want and need in South East Sheffield. We are always forgotten by the people in the Town Hall”.
The photograph shows SCC Councillors Gail Smith for Mosborough and Colin Ross for Dore and Totley, the current Load Mayor of Sheffield, working on the Owlthorpe Grassland Grazing Project. They are seen using a pole knocker to install an intermediate post for the post and wire fencing.
We would like to wish all our supporters a merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
Best Regards – Roger Marsh
